Q2 Biomass Yields up 8.2%

September 5, 2017

Farming Naturally's 2017 winter crop study has seen positive results from a shift of row planting to a high density planting method.

The primary findings from 8 sites in Hawaii include:

1.  Crop density greatly impacts flower and seed yield with the ability to completely prevent seed production with no negative impact on stalk or foliage performance.

2.  Through the use of controlled greenhouses, seed production in traditional row method has increased over 14.7%.

3.  Overall yield increases averaging 8.2% through these improved planting methods.

The increase in foliage production and improved decoration has lead to Farming Naturally expanding it's efforts to generate locally grown high protein animal feed for the Hawaii market.  While the crop density method will be revisited in the summer crop in an effort to study it's impact and ability to control erosion and soil loss.
