Solar PV Greenhouse Showcased at Agri Week Tokyo
Following the launch of our first Solar PV Greenhouse in Japan, Lamplighter Energy was invited to Agri Week, a Japan Agricultural Technology focused trade show. Staff showcased its advances in integrated panels into a controlled environment growing building, the expanded crop options with increased light at the plant levels, and the longevity of systems, especially during typhoons using our in house full panel clamp.
The first installation comprises a 2.24 hectare site over a family operated farm. The project has a 10 year license to sell power to the farm in its efforts to decarbonize its operations with a transition from fuel based equipment to electric. The installation includes technology solutions from Farming Naturally that includes a ground air thermal exchanger, integrated sensor suite, thermal cameras, and humidification with an onsite hydrogen boiler.
Currently solar over agriculture in Japan has a limited application with restrictions by two agencies and industry groups and the applications are studied to ensure no further loss of agricultural land to energy projects. Initial findings are positive showing support for the increased yield and improved quality of life for farmers as Lamplighter looks to extend its 10 year license to 20+ years to better match the 50 year life of the structure.
